Springleap - Where You Can Buy Unique T-Shirts Online.

As far as I am concerned, there is nothing worse in life than rocking up at a night club, dinner party or group orgy, and realising that there are at least two other people wearing the same t-shirt as you. Nothing good ever comes of that, let me tell you.

I remember a particularly unforgettable night during my high school days ( I was in standard 6 - also known as “freshman year”, if you’re American, or a pretentious dick) and I was at the school disco with my new chick. We had been going steady for about 6 weeks - she had let me feel her up 18 times already - and I was preparing to propose to her later that night, as one does as a horribly inexperienced and irrational youth. Anyhoo, I had just consumed my third Hooch alcoholic beverage, which I had stashed in my black Karimor rucksack, and thus needed to go to the loo.

Imagine my surprise then, to return and find my future wife making out with some greasy guy in standard 7, who thought he was cool because he shaved every day and had his ID already. It wasn’t her fault of course, he just happened to be wearing the same Adidas branded t-shirt as I was, and so CLEARLY she had mistaken him for me. (The light was really bad so this was entirely plausible)

So yes, believe me when I say that wearing the same t-shirt as someone else is bad news.

A good way of getting around this though is to avoid the mass market and buy your t-shirts online. Springleap is a local company which allows you to design your own t-shirts, vote on other designs, and also then purchase t-shirts based on various designs sent in by you and others. So, as you can imagine, it greatly reduces the risk of you rocking up somewhere with the same t-shirt as someone else, as well as your partner then ending up making out with them based on that little coincidence.

The website itself is pretty easy to use and shouldn’t provide you with any problems. You need to register first, which is free, and involves giving your name, email address etc. From here you just scroll around the various designs available, or send through your own little creation. The t-shirts are reasonably priced, more or less what you could expect to pay at Edgars or the various surf or skateboard shops around Cape Town. You obviously need a credit card to buy these t-shirts online though.

You usually get your t-shirt in about 3-4 weeks thereafter. There was a bit of a hassle with mine, but they threw in a free t-shirt to make up for it, so that prevented me from bitching too much about it.

Upon receiving it, the quality seems pretty high, I’ve just had it rigorously washed and the collars still seems to be in good nick, which is a promising sign.

“Wow, that sounds great Shaun,” I hear you say, “but are there gripes you have, or is this just a typical puff piece?”

In fact, there IS one thing which annoyed me about the Springleap t-shirts, and that is their length. The cut of the t-shirt seems to be primarily designed for people with small or short upper bodies. I tried a Large as well as an Extra Large, and both of them end up sitting just over my belt, which I’m not too keen on.

If I were to make a suggestion, I would say that they should come up with longer cuts, for those people with longer upper-bodies, or those who like their t-shirts covering their bum.

And that is all.
